Air and swab sampling for indoor environments
Understanding the air around you matters more than most people realise. Air quality sampling can reveal hidden contaminants that affect the health of everyone inside a building — and in some situations, getting that data isn’t just useful, it’s essential.
Once you know what’s in the air, you’re in a much stronger position to tackle it. Whether it’s improving ventilation, addressing damp, or reducing pollutants, the results give you something concrete to act on.
There’s a commercial benefit too. If you’re buying, selling or renting a property, being able to demonstrate clean, healthy air quality is a genuine point of difference — and a reassurance that buyers, sellers and landlords will value alike.
Our air sampling services detect the majority of the most common airborne contaminants, including mould, dander, pollen, construction dust and combustion particles. It is very important that air survey reports are interpreted and explained by professional who understand your building and its history.
Diagnosing indoor air quality problems that can cause:
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Concentration difficulties
- Irritation of respiratory system
- Dizziness and nausea
- Irritation of eyes
- Coughing and hoarseness
- Recurring sinus infections
- Irritation and reddening of skin
Dust DNA swab and air sampling for concealed mould
Dust DNA Test
Taking a swab of settled dust is ideal for screening its DNA for concealed mould growth and bacteria traces that may have accumulated in the home or business environment.
Air Sampling
In situations where collecting a suitable dust sample is not feasible, collecting an air sampe is another method for detecting hidden mould. Samples can be gathered using one of two approaches: active air sampling, where results are evaluated against HouseTest’s A–F grading scale or passive air sampling, which does not use a grading scale and requires an outdoor reference sample for comparison. Air sampling must be carried out by a qualified professional.
Awaab’s Law: From October 2025 for all landlords, managing agents, housing associations and councils need to be proactive in dealing with damp and mould when reported.
Air sampling and tape lift for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), mould and formaldehyde
Indoor VOC Survey
With thousands of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from hundreds of sources, our indoor air it can be challenging to identify what makes a person ill or present with allergic reactions. A single sample can reveal the chemical information or categories for potential sources.
Active Mould Test (MVOC)
Mold Volatile Organic compounds (MVOCs) are produced as the mold digests its food, causing serious health effects in the elderly, those with asthma and allergies, but especially children and infants. MVOC can be detected even if the mould is hidden from the naked eye with an air sampling survey.
Formaldehyde Sampling
Formaldehyde in the air could cause watery eyes; burning sensations in the throat, nose, and eyes; skin irritation, coughing, wheezing and nausea and is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. We can identify potential sources of formaldehyde such as building materials, everyday products, and natural processes in your environment.

“I contacted Swift after experiencing allergy symptoms upon moving into a new rental property. There were some signs of damp, but no visible mould, and I was perplexed as to why I was feeling poorly. Carl provided a lot initial advice ahead of service which always felt in my personal interests, as opposed to the company’s financial gain. Carl and Stuart visited on short notice, explaining their work throughout. The report and investigation was thorough, and the airborne sampling helped to confirm my suspicions. The ‘after care’ communication has been great.”
